NHS waiting lists at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust have fallen by 10,076 over the past year and by 13,588 since Labour took office. This local improvement reflects a wider national trend, with waiting lists dropping by 86,000 in November alone. This was the second largest monthly reduction in 15 years, bringing the total fall since the General Election to 312,000.
Commenting on the figures, Labour’s Paul Bell said:
“In Lewisham and across the country, waiting lists are falling as a result of the investment and reforms introduced by this Labour Government.
“At the General Election last year, Labour promised to protect and rebuild the NHS for people in Lewisham, and that is exactly what we are doing. While there is still much more to be done, more patients are being treated faster. This means better care, less pain and anxiety for those who have been waiting, and more people able to return to work and everyday life.
“Today’s figures provide further proof that Labour is the only party that can be trusted with our health service. Nigel Farage speaks openly about ending the NHS as we know it, and the Conservatives left it in a dire state. Labour is now delivering real improvements for the people of Lewisham.”
