Voters have demonstrated their continued trust in Lewisham Labour and Mayor Damien Egan to deliver on their priorities. Lewisham residents decisively elected four new Lewisham Labour councillors and have strongly voted to re-elect Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London and Len Duvall as the Assembly Member for Greenwich and Lewisham.

These results show that Lewisham Labour is listening to people’s real concerns and after a hard-fought campaign returned its council by-elections candidates with a strong mandate of over 50% of the vote in each of these elections – with significantly higher turnouts compared to the May 2018 council elections.

  • Bellingham – Rachel Onikosi 56%
  • Catford South – James Royston 51%
  • New Cross – Samantha Latouche 61%
  • Sydenham – Jack Lavery 51%

This is a huge vote of confidence in Lewisham Labour councillors and Mayor Damien Egan.

Damien Egan said,

“Thank you to everyone who voted Labour across Lewisham, we will continue to work hard to repay the trust you have placed in us. Colleagues and I have spent countless hours on the doorstep listening to resident’s concerns and the issues they care about. We are a diverse borough, but I know we share the same values, beliefs, and priorities for our area and its future.

All of us at Lewisham Labour will continue to work tirelessly on delivering the social and council homes we desperately need, taking action on the Climate Emergency and toxic air pollution as well as ensuring we tackle the broad inequalities across society.”
