Care worker pay

• Lewisham Labour have signed UNISON’s Ethical Care Charter, guaranteeing better staff pay, terms and conditions. All of our 746 care workers now earn at least the London Living Wage and are now paid for their travel time between patients.  

Living Wage employers

• Lewisham Labour have nearly doubled the number of Living Wage employers in the borough, providing higher paid jobs for local residents. We continue to offer business rate discounts to employers who pay Living Wage, to encourage them to pay staff better.  

Social Value Policy

• Lewisham Labour have introduced a groundbreaking new Social Value Policy which means Council contractors now need to prove a social value to Lewisham if a contract is to be awarded. Through our new policy, we have hired 38 new apprentices and secured 16,000 new hours of community volunteering. 

Business support programme

• Lewisham Labour‘s DEK programme of business support has benefitted 204 businesses, created 25 new jobs and has enabled 72 local businesses to launch new products.
