Lewisham Labour is marking #HeartUnions week and campaigning against the Tory Trade Union Bill. #HeartUnions week is a celebration of the great work done by union reps and members in workplaces across the country and in wider society.
Trade unions play a vital role in our economy and society; giving working people a voice and helping promote fair pay and rights at work.
But Trade Unions are under attack from the Tory Government. Their vicious and vindictive Trade Union Bill would make it much more difficult for unions to take action to protect their members, and it restricts their ability to organise and raise funds.
It’s also an attack on the Labour Party, and on our democracy. The Bill could lead to a loss of almost £8million in funding for the Labour Party. We’re proud of our link with the union movement. Whilst the Tories are funded by a small number of millionaires, we’re funded by millions of ordinary working people.
The Labour Party in Lewisham works closely with the trade unions, both on Lewisham Council and on campaigning work in our community. The Council has publicly opposed the Trade Union Bill. They are valued partners and we are proud to celebrate their work and to stand up with them against the Tory Government’s attacks.
Join Lewisham Labour and Vicky Foxcroft MP on Saturday 13th February at 14:00 at Lewisham Clock Tower for a #HeartUnions rally and campaigning session against the Tory Trade Union Bill. We’ll be running a petition, speaking to shoppers and shopkeepers and knocking on doors in the local area.
