Lewisham Council and the Lewisham Labour group have publically backed the Greater London National Park City Campaign; the campaign to make London the first National Park City in the United Kingdom.
The Campaign aims to get London designated as a National Park City. The aim of the campaign is to make London a city where people and nature are better connected; where every child benefits from exploring, playing and learning outdoors; where we all enjoy high-quality green spaces, where the air is clean to breathe, and where there are affordable and green homes.
The principles of the National Park City Campaign are important for Lewisham and London. Labour-run Lewisham Council has long worked to protect and enhance access to parks and green spaces. We're working to reduce pollution, including by introducing a borough-wide 20mph speed limit.
Cllr Rachel Onikosi Cabinet Member for Public Realm said: “we at Lewisham Council are thrilled to lend our support to the National Park City Campaign. Lewisham residents deserve to live in a city with clean air, green space and an outdoor lifestyle as good as anywhere in the world”.
